Using Twitter

I found this youtube video on Twitter (or micro-blogging):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddO9idmax0o&feature=fvw

My issue with Twitter is my life is not interesting enough for people to care about what I'm doing! lol!

But, I understand that schools are starting to use Twitter. I just need to figure out why (??). I can see that it may be useful if a professor or teacher needs to post an update - like a change in assignments. But....couldn't that be done on a blog? Or the class website?

I'm not sure, as a class, what we're supposed to Twitter about?? I'm assuming class stuff, but I'll probably put most of my thoughts on this blog.....we'll see how it goes!

That's what I love about this KSU program....learning about all these technologies, whether I like them or not.

  1. Hi Jean! I am not a Twitter fan, but my husband is addicted. He is a stock market junkie and has twitter updates sent to his phone. So, since many high school students have cell phones (and many middle schoolers, and an alarming number of elementary kids have them, too) a teacher COULD sent a tweet if she noticed a problem with an assignment after school. However, exceptions would have to be made for those without the phones. If they are going to be ringing in our classrooms, maybe we should be using them for good instead of evil!

  2. Thanks for the link to the Twitter video. What I'm wondering, however, is how we might go beyond the question "What are you doing?" Frankly, that isn't, for the most part, what interests me about all of you in this class. What I hope we can use Twitter for is to share quick links to new info about class topics and new (but really short) insights that we might have into how to use Internet technologies in our classes. Of course, it is kind of an experiment, and if we find that Twitter doesn't help us much, then we can drop it after the course is over.
