Student Led Discussions

I'm really liking the student-led discussions that we're doing in class. Both the synchronous ones and the ones on the discussion board. I think the participation has been great and I really like the topics that we're discussing. Out of all the classes that I've taken so far, this is the first class I've been in that has done this. I think it's a good idea. Everyone has been giving really great input and I like reading about the experiences of my classmates.

  1. I also like the discussions very much. My Stats course also uses this heavily, but in a much more structured way week by week. I like many aspects of this as a student and teacher so I am incorporating these into the courses that I teach online. For the instructor, grading is not an easy chore!! I sympathize with Chip for this. I have a hard time developing effective grading rubrics that are easy to communicate and simple to implement.

  2. I like the discussion too. I think I like the student led boards rather than the live chats. Maybe I am saying that just because I am dreading leading my own live chat next week. It's amazing the amount of information that our fellow students develop when leading the discussions. Everyone has done an excellent job!
